TJi achieved recognition for his work in the creative arts prior to committing to the healing arts. He chiefly worked in mixed media dimensional art, film, and writing, while developing inspirational public spaces as beacons to bring people together.
FILM:
“I watched Donut Men… it was great - it was funny as hell… I giggled from beginning ‘til end… I had to make myself stop laughing so I could watch the rest of the movie.”
— Quentin Tarantino
“[Donut Men] was great. Heavily glazed. Very sweet. A little yeasty… I liked it.”
– Robert Rodriguez
“It kicked ass… It was fun to watch - all the way through.”
– Mike Judge (creator of King of the Hill, Beavis & Butthead)
“You’d never tell from “Donut,” a remarkably sophisticated black-and-white action film that is as punchy and pithy as Quick’s other artistic endeavors. The film’s velocity was no doubt helped by Robert Rodriguez, who provided some fine editing on the film (Rodriguez’s wife, Elizabeth Avellan, produced “Donut Men”). But don’t confuse such high-profile help with any attitude on Quick’s part.”
– South By South West Review
“When I first saw (Donut Men), it reminded me of filmmakers Fine Line had cut its teeth on – Waters, Herzog, Godard – filmmakers clearly marching to their own drummer. It’s not a direct comparison, but he’s got a full aesthetic. He is not aping any particular genre. He’s definitely on his own wavelength.”
– Mark Ordesky (President of Fine Line Pictures; Executive Producer, Lord of the Rings trilogy)
“It’s not hard to see how a mind who put the television in the refrigerator came up with this perspective on homelessness.”
– Good Morning Autralia (reference to Quick’s film, Street Life, winner of the AFI/Sony Visions Competition)
“It may be the most unusual success story since Lana Turner was discovered in Schwab’s Coffeehouse on Sunset Strip.”
– Sydney Morning Herald
“Artistic filmmaker and all-around visionary.”
– Detour Magazine
“He could be a white Spike Lee.”
– Los Angeles Times, Calendar feature
“Cutting edge is (Quick’s) middle name.”
– The Hollywood Reporter
“It doesn’t happen very often, but this is the capital of dreams, and this is a story like no other. It’s a story about a young man who wanted to be a big time movie director, boarded a bus, a drove straight into the Hollywood spotlight.”
– Entertainment Tonight
“Beeaje Quick’s work is a spillage of creative blood.”
– MTV

ART:
“Quick’s lack of formal training adds a lot to his credibility. The fact that he was isolated from the art world has provided him with a platform and a vehicle to create what he really thinks, feels and wants without being influenced by other art. That’s what makes his work so unique. No one can look and say ‘it reminds me of someone else.’ I am so moved by his work. I think he can be anywhere.”
– Avi Amiel (art dealer of Tamayo, Botero, Lichtenstein, and Warhol)
“One of Quick’s biggest fans is Mark Ordesky, President of Fine Line Features, who says he is drawn to Quick’s ‘aggressive irreverence.’ He has one of Quick’s line drawings, titled Decisions, hanging in his office. It’s a sort of stick-figure version of The Scream. Below the figure is the line: “If you can’t handle living your life now, you can always wait for it to come out on video.”
– L.A. Weekly
PUBLIC SPACES:
“Entering Beeaje Quick’s space forces a drastic, immediate shift in perspective: There is no transition between the clamor and scorching brightness of Hollywood Boulevard outside and the pitch black internals of the old Vogue Theatre. The dingy clutter of external Los Angeles is supplanted with dark and cavernous space, so well insulated from the street all traffic noise and tourist babble is demolished. In its place Quick’s preferred soundtrack: ethereal gypsy music made with nothing but human hands and wine glasses”.
